3DS family hardware was officially discontinued on September 16, 2020. The Nintendo eShop for the 3DS officially shut down on March 27, 2023. The Nintendo Network online service shut down on April 8, 2024, with the exception of Pokémon Bank, Poké Transporter, and the ability to redownload previously purchased software.

The Nintendo 4DS has the design of a regular Nintendo 3DS but with a wider screen that measures 3 1/2 in., close to the length of the Nintendo 3DS's screen. It has a left control stick and a right control stick that can be used with not only Nintendo 4DS games, but also Nintendo 3DS and DS games.
