As part of applying for a green card, you're required to attend a biometrics appointment. What should you expect? First of all, don't be intimidated by the word “biometrics!” During this appointment, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will simply record your fingerprints and take photos of you.

If you have received a receipt notice, use the receipt number to check your case status on this USCIS webpage. If you learn that USCIS sent you a biometrics appointment notice but you did not receive it in the mail, you can call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283.

USCIS will mail you the biometrics appointment notice after you submit your application or petition. The appointment will take place before you receive any benefits or a card in the mail.

You may request an appointment online or you may call the Contact Center at 800-375-5283 (TTY 800-767-1833, VRS 877-709-5797). Depending on your situation, you may not need to visit an office in person if you need proof of your immigration status or have been issued permanent residence through an Immigration Judge.
