A webmaster is someone who creates and manages the content and organization of a website, manages the computer server and technical programming aspects of a website, or does both.

A webmaster email address is the email address for that person or department. Traditionally, it's webmaster at [domain], but it can be anything you want. Generally people set up the webmaster email address so it works and goes somewhere.

Google Webmaster Tools is the former name of Google Search Console, a powerful free platform Google provides for webmasters to track their websites' technical SEO health and performance. The service was started in 2005 as a Google Sitemaps tool, and developed into Google Webmaster Central a year later.

However, the term is becoming archaic, and according to the data found in books, its use is in sharp decline. A user experience study we ran revealed that very few web professionals identify themselves as webmasters anymore.
