In English, we have one word for “where”, but in German there are three words. We use wo to ask where someone is. We use wohin to ask where someone is going (direction away from the speaker). And we use woher to ask where someone is coming from (direction toward the speaker).

Wohin. German has two question words for asking "where." One is wo? and is used when asking the location of someone or something. The other is wohin? and this is used when asking about motion or direction, as in "where to."

The ending of "nächste" changes depending on the case that is used. German makes distinctions between cases in their adjectives and articles. For more information on cases please refer to the grammar chapter 14.6, 14.7 and 14.8 German Cases. 'Nächsten' can also be the plural form of 'nächste'.

Wo? (where, at what place/location) requires the dative case, whereas wohin (where to) uses the accusative case.
