Type 3b. 3b hair subtype has medium-tight, S-shaped spiral curls that resemble ringlets. If you have a feel of the strands, you'll find that they have a mixture of thin and thicker strands, so 3b hair has fine and medium hair texture.

When properly hydrated, type 3B curls look amazing simply air-dried. Use the plopping method to style hair post-shower, and try to minimize heat styling (which will worsen frizz and damage hair, both experts warn). Between wash days, a loose ponytail puffed up top keeps frizz at bay and hair away from the face.

Type 3B hair generally features a significant amount of volume and defined curl patterns. 3B curls tend to experience shrinkage from wet to dry and become frizzy when brushed. They stay coiled no matter the tool or product used on them.

Type 3A hair is characterised by defined ringlets, but these are typically loose spirals rather than tight coils. 3A curls tend to be wide and springy, though they can appear more wavy than curly when wet.
