At times it feels like a boss rush mode, where every few rooms, you're up against something new. To make matters more frustrating, Dread has an annoying habit of frequently blocking your path right before one of these encounters, so you have no choice but to finish the battle before you can proceed.

The Metroid producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, conceived Metroid Dread as a Nintendo DS sequel to Metroid Fusion (2002). It came from the concept of having Samus followed by "dread" on an unfamiliar planet. Sakamoto wanted to expand on the stealth sequences in Fusion and combine them with traditional Metroid gameplay.

"Metroids are the floating organisms discovered on the planet SR388. These fearsome predators latch onto other organisms and leech the life energy out of their prey."

Metroid Zero Mission is the first game chronologically so start with that one. I would honestly just go down the timeline. Zero, super or dread. The Primes benefit from being familiar with the formula, and the 2d games are easier to relate to while you figure it out.
