How can an applicant check their Live Scan status? DMV cannot release a license or permit until the applicant passes a background check from DOJ. Applicants may check the status of their Live Scan application at https://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov. Applicants will need to enter their ATI # and date of birth.

The Applicant Background Check Status is located at: https://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov/. The ATI Number and Date of Birth are required to perform a search.

24-hour Automated Telephone Service Available: (916) 227-4557. If a requesting agency does not have results within seven days and digital Live Scan fingerprints were submitted, you may use the automated telephone system to check on your submission.

To receive a copy of the record, individuals must have a live scan done and pay $50.00 ($25 rolling fee + $25 DOJ processing fee). The California DOJ will mail the criminal history record to the address you indicate, typically within 30 days, however, some results may take longer.
