Red Bull Symphonic is based on the unprecedented collaboration between a modern-style artist and a classical music director together with a full-scale symphonic orchestra.

Designed by the Cleveland architectural firm Walker & Weeks, the building is named for John L. Severance and his wife, Elisabeth, who initially pledged $1 million for its construction.

One of the defining characteristics of a symphony orchestra is how the different sections of the orchestra are divided. The most common way to divide an orchestra is by instrument families, with the strings being one section, the woodwinds being another, and the brass and percussion being a third.

Wind instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoons. String instruments include harp, violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Percussion instruments include timpani, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, triangle, celesta and piano. Brass instruments are made up of French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba.
