Designed by the Cleveland architectural firm Walker & Weeks, the building is named for John L. Severance and his wife, Elisabeth, who initially pledged $1 million for its construction.

By mutual decision, David Radzynski has stepped down from the post of Concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra effective March 3, 2024. Mr. Radzynski assumed the role of Concertmaster in January of 2023, after playing with the orchestra on its first post-pandemic European tour in the Fall of 2022.

There is no dress code for Cleveland Orchestra performances.

Each one-hour tour is led by a volunteer tour guide who shares Severance Hall's history and legends as patrons visit the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Concert Hall, Bogomolny-Kozerefski Grand Foyer, Smith Lobby, the Organ Loft, Green Room, Ong & Lerner Galleries, and the Reinberger Chamber Hall.
